“Pull yourself up by your bootstraps. No one is coming to save you, so you'll have to save yourself.” We’ve probably all heard a sentiment similar to this about taking care of ourselves and not relying on anyone else. While this may be good advice in some situations, it’s terrible advice when it comes to our eternity. We are all broken; we all fall short; and we are all in need of rescue. But there is good news! The hope of salvation has nothing to do with our own efforts to do good and follow the rules, but it has everything to do with putting our faith in the One who offers eternal rescue for all.
