Living Water vs. Bread of Life

As Jesus teaches the crowds and his disciples, he starts to point to spiritual things in the midst of the physical world. He addresses himself as Living Water that quenches thirst eternally, and the Bread of Life, that does not rot, like the manna and bread they are accustomed to. It makes sense in a spiritual sense but how would the people receive this word?
