Throughout history, children have been seen as either a means to an end or an inconvenience. When Jesus showed up on the scene, children were seen as a liability in first century Rome. They were just in the way of the power hungry political religious systems.
When Jesus showed up on the scene, he spoke to women, healed the sick and celebrated the poor. After all of that, he says, 'you guys really don't get it yet. My Kingdom looks more life these little people than it does a powerful system. So, if you want to be a part of my Kingdom, you need to become more like this....' Why would he say that? Why would he pick up and bless little kids? What do they have to offer?
